It appears that the xclm application is designed to run in a MATLAB environment, and can communicate with the xc8 application, but the keygen application does not work. The instructions on the web pages on xclm are no help at all.
The XC8 C compiler (iOS) is a complete, integrated C/C++ compiler for the XC8 microcontroller family (PIC, XC8, MSP430, dsPIC, and ARM/Thumb) on iOS and Android devices. It is the only XC8 C/C++ compiler that supports iOS and Android development and is optimized for XC8 devices.
Your issue is probably that the installer has put the IPT and the USB driver on the wrong ports. So I verified this by manually copying the files to ports that the installer claims to put them on, and then activating the compiler on the system. You can do this as follows:
I assumed that Microchip was assigning me to a higher level license than the 60-day trial, so I did a search on the internet for Microchip functional safety compilers. I came across an old Microchip User Forum thread that described this exact same problem. They advised to just enter a new MAC address and reinstall. I did that and it worked.
After some research on this I have come to the conclusion that you can't use the Pro compiler license (it is a little over $5000 for a license and up to $10,000 for a lifetime license) for a bare metal RTOS or networked embedded application, as the Functional Safety licenses do not include the RTOS/Firmware Support licenses. I am still trying to find this answer, but I am not finding it. So for now I have been using the 60 day evaluation and if I want to go further then I would have to pay the price of a full PRO license, which is not worth it at this time.
If you still cannot get it to work, then I suggest you contact Microchip support. I don't think you can find much better support then that when you are trying to get a base compiler to work for a safety critical product.
While the XC8 license requires free software subscription (US$ 1-100/year). This is because these licenses often combine a functional safety compiler license with software subscriptions for other features such as linker and code assist. 827ec27edc
